Dearest Gaffney family, I have known you all for the majority of my life and have fond memories of you as a child in England, especially at Carmel College. The last time I saw Daniel was when he was in New York visiting in our 20s. We went out enjoyed the summer together. He introduced me to Stella Artois, a beer that had just come to the US, and I showed him NYC fun hanging out in a stairwell! A funny story from that trip was when we went to Orchard beach in the Bronx and I think Daniel was a bit horrified. The water was kind of dirty and I think we saw a diaper floating around... his poor English skin got SO sunburned that day and we ended up stuck in traffic leaving the beach for like 3 hours! I was hoping that our next time meeting up I would get to meet his family, and he can see mine as well. It is heartbreaking to lose someone so young, and send all my love across the world to you all! Dearest Jen, I am so incredibly sorry to hear your sad news. I will never forget your and Dan’s kindness when things in my life were challenging a few years back. You didn’t know me all that well but you still gave me some wonderful support when I needed it most. Dan’s perspective on the situation was particularly helpful and has stayed with me. Thinking of you and your family. Love from Kate xx
I wish there were words to properly convey how sad I feel. I didn’t get to see Dan very often but he was a true friend. I will miss his wonderful sense of humor and his kindness. I was always in awe of how hard he worked to become a doctor, how much he loved his family, how he valued his friends. I will spend to today listening to Sean Paul and remembering all the silly things we got up to. My love to Jen and Nate, to Vivienne, Mark, Goldie and Leah xxxxxxx
My earliest clear memories of Daniel were the two of us mixing deadly cocktails at bar mitzvahs and daring the birthday boys to down them. He was such a sweet, kind and fun-loving boy, easy to be around. I always felt close to him whenever we met, no matter how many months or years had passed since the last time. We stayed with Dan and Jen last year in their lovely home in sunny Australia. I thought then we'd have many more visits, but he has been snatched away from us far too soon. It feels so unfair.
As I sit at home in London, aware that the funeral takes place as I type, I feel so much pain that I'm not able to be there to offer support to my dear family and to say a proper goodbye to the cousin I always loved.
Farewell Daniel, sleep well. I'll never forget you and will cherish the bonds of family ever more dearly for your loss. To Jen, Nate, Viv, Mark, Goldie and Leah, we send all our love and prayers, and hope that fond memories of the wonderful times with Daniel will keep you strong when times seem most dark.
All our love, Claire and Richard xxx

As part of Dan's family, we have talked over the last week a lot about him. How kind, genuine, protective of his family he was. We were at his wedding to Jen, and it was truly a match of pure love. We will forever hold him, Jen and Nate in our hearts. An amazing life taken too soon, but always remembered and held in our hearts. With much love, the Ramsay family. xx

From Didcot sixth forms to a Doctor in Australia, what an amazing life in such a short time. The tragic news that we won't see your smile, hear your voice or feel your hugs still hasn't sunk in. Our love and prayers are all for you and your family. Love Simon
I’m so pleased we got to see you during your trip to the UK and it was a joy to meet Nate and see you all together. What happy memories for us to hold on to.
I will miss Dan’s sense of humour, massive grin and quick laugh but most of all his kindness. Especial love to you, his family, who miss him most. Love Zoe x

I’m still in shock, I’m still in disbelief. You have impacted so many people in a multitude of positive ways, including me. Your cheeky attitude, big hugs, and deep laughter, will be sorely missed. Sending love to everyone, Chris S
